July Review and Favourites

Hey Guys

Can't believe August is here already so that means it is time for another monthly favourites this time for July. I spent a majority of July away I went to London with my best friend for a couple of days we went to see Romeo and Juliet, also out of the blue we got to see the premier for Star Trek: Beyond in Leicester Square which was amazing to experience. I then went on holiday down to Somerset for a week with my family, then I went on a group trip to have a tour of Wembley Stadium.

PLAY:

I feel like this is obvious but the best thing I did in July was go and see the Branagh Theatre Company production of Romeo and Juliet which stars Lily James, Richard Madden, Derek Jacobi and Meera Syal. Unfortunately we did not get to see Richard Madden due to his injury but that did not take away the fact that it was an absolute acting master class and an amazing interpretation of Shakespeare. My and my friend Amy did a full review which you can check out here to see our thoughts in depth, but if you have tickets or can get hold of some before it closes on the 13th August then I would strongly recommend you go.

FILM:

I saw one film in the cinema and that was Now You See Me 2 which I really enjoyed, it's about these magicians and how they try to reveal wrong doings. The first one was really good and this sequel was just as good, I really enjoy the concept of these films and the fact that it involves proper magic tricks that people learn and train for not the fantasy Harry Potter like magic. Unfortunately it is no longer in cinema but if you haven't seen the first one and you like magic tricks and films that mess with your mind then check this out.

BOOKS:

I've read quite a few books this month, I am currently making my way through the Chronicles of Ixia books by Maria V Snyder which is a fantasy series about a poison tester. However, while I was on holiday I did read the debut novel from Carrie Hope Fletcher called On The Side which I absolutely loved it's a very heart breaking and heart warming book, it made me cry a good couple of times. It's about this lady called Evie Snow who has died and in order for her to pass through into her heaven she needs to reveal to the ones she loves her three biggest secrets that are weighing down her soul. This is a love story with a bit of magical realism thrown into it. I highly recommend you read it if you love emotional books.

FOOD:

While I was away on holiday I stayed in a little village called Mark which was outside Burnham on Sea and on the Sunday we went to a pub called The White Horse Inn and it was the best Sunday roast dinner I had ever had eating out, it was homemade, the roast potatoes were crispy, the chicken was falling to pieces and the gravy was lovely and the Yorkshire puddings were a decent size and cooked proper. The best part is they bought out a dish of veg and another of cauliflower cheese for everyone to share and as someone who doesn't like certain vegetables this was amazing. Me and my boyfriend also had lunch there in the week and I had a lovely prawn salad which came with a side of proper crusty bread. I would highly recommend if anyone is visiting or living in that area in Somerset as the food is gorgeous.

FASHION:

I have had this fashion favourite for a while but haven't mentioned it until now and that is converses. In September last year I invested in some Harleyquinn converses and I have not stopped wearing them since then, I literally live in them they are so comfortable and the only thing that's ruined is one of the converse symbols but that's it. I also bought a pair of white low top ones for this summer and I wore them all around London for four days straight and my feet barely ached they were so comfortable to wear and both pairs were totally worth the money I would highly recommend investing if you want some casual, comfortable shoes.

GAME:

This will come as no surprise as everyone in the world is playing this game and that is Pokémon Go. I waited a little bit before I bought into the hype and I now love it, as an original lover of Pokémon it is amazing to see the original 150 bought back as there have been so many new additions to the world it is hard to keep up. I haven't tried battling a gym and to be honest I'm enjoying just collecting them and evolving them and hatching eggs and seeing which ones I remember from when I used to watch it when I was younger. I like how it is encouraging people to get outside and walk about but I do not agree with some of the extremities people are too in order to catch these Pokémon.

Hope you enjoyed this monthly favourites, until next time

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
