August Review

Hey Guys

It's that time again for a end of month review and favourites, I cannot believe that it is September now as we speak. So August wasn't exciting like July was but this month I got a job, found out that I will be graduating in November apart from that I enjoyed my last month of summer freedom before having to deal with adult life. One thing that I was so excited about this month was the My Burberry Black campaign which featured Lily James and it is stunning and I cannot wait to smell the perfume.

FILM:

I went to the cinema 4 times this month which is better than previous months. I saw Finding Dory, Romeo and Juliet, Star Trek and Suicide Squad. I enjoyed Finding Dory for what it was I wouldn't see it again but I enjoyed it nonetheless and I did tear up quite a few times and baby Dory is the most adorable squish possible. Yes I am still harping on about this play but I went to see Kenneth Branagh's Romeo and Juliet in cinema which was the showing that was broadcast back in July and included Richard Madden playing Romeo and it was mind blowing with the correct cast and to think that we are able to broadcast live shows into cinema is incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it this way. If you want to read my review of Romeo and Juliet click here. I am a massive fan of the Star Trek films and Star Trek Beyond was amazing I really enjoyed it and was lucky enough to see the premier in July. It was interesting to see Kirk fall in love with his job again and see his friends around and Idris Elba was incredible as the bad guy. The costumes and make up in this is phenomenal. Finally the last film was Suicide Squad and wow this film was so good I know it has had a lot of stick and is a bit marmite but I loved it. It had a decent storyline I thought and had a lovely outcome of friendship between these misfits in the end. My favourite character was hands down Harleyquinn, Margot Robbie did such an amazing job also I loved Jared Leto as the Joker he was phenomenal and very unhinged and scary and had amazing chemistry with Margot Robbie. I would recommend all these films actually I thoroughly enjoyed them all.

BOOKS:

I had a huge reading month this month I didn't realise until I looked on the Goodreads app how many books I completed this month. I finished 7 books this month which were Spy Glass, Shadow Study and Night Study by Maria V Snyder which I gave 4 stars to all and can't wait for the finale to these books that comes out next year. Then I read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play which I rated 3 stars, I enjoyed this for what it was but the main problem I had was a very weak plot line but think it would be better on stage to see. Next book and quite possibly my favourite book of the month was The Land of Stories: An Author's Odyssey by Chris Colfer which is the 5th book in the Land of Stories series I'm not going to go into detail so don't spoil it but I thought this was an amazing book I gave it 5 stars and again ended on another cliffhanger which is so annoying I have to wait until next year. After this I read The Last Star by Rick Yancey which is the finale to the 5th Wave trilogy and I really didn't like this book I gave it 3 stars and felt that this and the previous book were getting further away from the main character and what her purpose was and I didn't like the ending but not for the obvious reason if you have read it. The final book I read this month is The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, I gave this book 4 stars but I honestly preferred Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn but I enjoy thrillers but they do freak me out but I found this story a tiny bit predictable but I still didn't figure out the end point but I felt the ending like Gone Girl was a little bit flat.

TV:

This month I decided to go back on Netflix which hasn't been used since the end of the latest Once Upon a Time. I decided to watch Shawdowhunters which is loosely based on The Mortal Instruments books by Cassandra Clare which I love and I have heard mixed things about it but I absolutely loved it. I was only going to watch an episode a day but ended up watching 12 episodes in one day, I can't wait for the next season and see which direction they are going to take it after the first series is based on The City of Bones which is the first book.

SPORT:

It wouldn't be right if I didn't mention the Olympics which went on throughout August and too be honest I didn't watch that much of it but I loved the gymnastics and so happy for Max Whitlock winning his medals. Also this month the football started again which I am so happy about I feel like my weekends have a purpose again. Think the league is going to be close this season with the amount of new faces in charge of the big teams.

RANDOM:

I have two random things I have been loving throughout August to end this review of August. First is the Vera Wang Princess perfume which just smells amazing I first liked it when my housemate at uni had it and I finally decided to buy some and haven't stopped wearing it since and the bottle is gorgeous. Last favourite is my Juice Sound Square which is a little cubed portable speaker and the sound quality is amazing especially considering it's size as well I have too put my iPod volume below halfway otherwise the whole neighbourhood will be listening to Aladdin with me.

That is the review of August, I know it's not been an eventful one and I promise September is going to be a lot more interesting as I have some exciting things planned that I will be writing posts on, until next time.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
