September Review

Hey Guys

So another month has come and gone and we are now 3/4 of the way through the year which is madness. This means it is time for another monthly review. September has been a very busy month for me but an absolutely amazing one with me getting to go to some amazing events that happened.

Firstly this month I attended the book event at The Glee Club for Carrie Hope Fletcher's debut novel On The Other Side which you can read about here to see in depth about the event. I would like to thank Carrie for taking the time to read the blog post I did and for sharing it with everyone.

Sticking with the Carrie theme the second exciting thing that happened this month was that me and one of my friends went to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Hippodrome in Birmingham and I loved it so much was amazing to see a film I loved during my childhood be played out in front of me. I loved Lee Mead and Carrie as Mr Potts and Truly there relationship on stage was lovely. My biggest surprise was Claire Sweeny what a voice she has was unbelievable some of notes she hit. Loved Matt Gillett as the Childcatcher was so scary and did the part justice. Overall a really lovely show for all the family.

The last exciting event this month that goes along the theme of childhood is that I got to fulfil a childhood dream and that is that I got to see Ronan Keating live at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. I have listened to his music since I can remember be it him solo or Boyzone, I remember having one of their albums on cassette tape in the car. I cried so many times because it bought back so much nostalgia from my childhood and he sung old songs that I loved and never in a million years thought I would hear him sing live. Ronan himself seems at so much ease when he's on stage and it was very amusing at how much he amused himself made for very good artist and audience interaction. He was absolutely amazing the best concert I've been too because it meant so much to me, my mum and sister to see him. A side note Symphony Hall is a lovely venue in Birmingham and not one I'd been to before and would definitely go again.  Also sticking with concerts this month I booked to go and see the wonderful Olly Murs again for March next year.

FILM:

I saw one film in the cinema this month and that was the Magnificent 7 which is a remake of the old Western films. I thoroughly enjoyed it but found it a little predictable in some places but has a easy to follow story line and is very action packed would give it 4/5 stars.

BOOKS:

I finished 2 books this month meaning I currently stand at 35/40 on my reading goal of the year and they were Empire of Storm by Sarah J Maas which is the 5th book in the Throne of Glass series which I gave 5/5 stars. I love the Throne of Glass series it was in my post about my favourite book series which you can read here but essentially Empire of Storms is a continuation from what happened in Queen of Shadows which is all I can really say without spoilers but I really loved it. The other book I read was The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen which I gave 3/5 stars because I really struggled to get into this book but I will be continuing on with this trilogy because I am intrigued to see how it goes.

That's it for this month, unfortunately I don't know how great October is going to be as I'm just going to be working all month so may not be a review or a favourites but we shall see. Hope you enjoyed this post, until next time.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
