Disneyland Paris Day 2 (Feb-March 2017)

Tuesday 28th February

Our very exciting first full on day in Disney started with a 6:30am alarm as we picked the earliest breakfast slot which was 7am-8am. Breakfast was a standard cold buffet breakfast so I just had some orange juice and 3 croissants and I was set to go, we had to run for the bus (story of our trip) and got to the park and through bag check for 7:50am ready for Extra Magic Hours. I was surprised how many people didn't get to the park for the 8am but this meant it was easier to get on rides in Fantasyland and Discoveryland.

The first ride we went straight for was Peter Pan because it was quiet and the queues for this ride in usual opening hours is ridiculous because it's such a child friendly ride. This is a beautifully visual ride and had to be my 2nd favourite ride of the trip it was just beautiful and Peter Pan is one of my favourites. However, this ride is a track in the ceiling sometimes I felt like the boat was a bit jumpy but apart from that I loved it so much. We wanted to get as many rides do in the park as possible by 9:30am so we could go and queue up to get into the Studio Park. In that time we got Snow White, which Alex has a hate relationship with done, Pinocchio which I did not like, Dumbo which was fun, the Mad Hatters Tea Cups then me and Darren did Buzz Lightyear whilst Kelly and Alex went and got in the queue for the Studios.

The gates opened at half 9ish and it was manic there was people running to get on the rides, we were lucky to get quite far ahead in the queue for Crush's Coaster. However, we were 2 groups from the front when the ride broke down and they had to stop the ride, turn all the lights on and investigate. After about 10-15 minutes they started to let people back on the ride. Before I went on this ride I had no idea what it was going to be like I thought it was going to be a lot tamer than it was. For one I was sat at the back of the shell which for me is a bad idea as I like to see what's coming, I had no idea how fast and vigorous this ride was, it really threw you about. I wasn't a fan the whole time my nose just ran then I got off and was actually shaking but I think it's because it was the first intense ride of the trip, it was early in the morning and I didn't know what to expect anyway. If I was to go on it again I would probably sit at the front instead so I could see what was coming and this time I'd have a better idea of what was to come. Once we finished that we raced over to get a fastpass for Ratatouille for later on in the day.

The other three then decided that they wanted to do Rock 'n' Rollercoaster which was a 20 minute wait which I didn't mind them doing because I just went into Studio 1 and walked round the shop in there the whole time because some of the cafes weren't open for me to sit in like the Blockbuster Café opposite Aerosmith which was very annoying. However, this was fast becoming the day of rides breaking down because whilst they were in the queue for Aerosmith it broke down for about 5 minutes so that added more to the waiting time, all in all I think I waited half an hour for them and must have walked around the Studio 1 shop 6 times but I didn't mind at all. Luckily once they had found me we went into the Disney Village for Earl of Sandwich which I really liked the option I had, however this meant we started to get pushed for time because of our Ratatouille fast pass slot was approaching, so we ate quickly then power walked to Ratatouille which has to be one of the best themed parks of the entire Disney park not just the Studios it was amazing. So the ride is a "trackless" 4D experience ride and to be completely honest I was quite bored on this ride, I don't know why but what I did like was the rats you sit in and the motions more than the 3D, for example it "tilts" you forward and you spin. We popped into the shop which was so cute and bought some refreshment. When walking away from this area we noticed that the wait for Tower of Terror was 45 minutes which was the best we had seen it, so I just told them to go on it I would be fine on my own and they could meet after.

I loved walking round Disney on my own it allowed me to just wonder I think I covered a majority of shop especially in Fantasyland. I wondered to the Disney Village where the heavens just opened and I finally found a Hotel Cheyenne pin which I was happy about. I just risked the rain and went back into the main Disney Park and just wondered taking in the all magic and it has to be one of my favourite parts of this whole trip. Like I said I wondered into all the shops in Fantasyland especially, my particular favourite was the Snow White one next to the castle the theming was incredible. I went on one ride by myself and that was the Carousal which is just beautiful and I love how around Fantasyland they play music and I could easily skip around singing all day. I also explored the castle for myself and it's just incredible, Sleeping Beauty is one of my favourites from childhood. Darren came to meet me so whilst I waited I sat on a bench outside the castle by the entrance to the Dragon. So what was supposed to be a 45 minute wait turned into hour and a half later. Keeping up with the theme of rides breaking down one of the lifts broke down when they got to the point where you go in the lift. Kelly and Alex stayed in the Studios Park for the Star Wars stage show thing, which even though I love Star Wars I wasn't that fussed about, I was more concerned about watching the light projection show later in the day. So to kill some time we went on Phantom Manor which didn't have much wait and guess what, it broke down whilst we were on it.

We went back to the Studios to meet back up and to kill some time we went and watched Art of Animation and Cinemagique. I much preferred Art of Animation because first of all the Theatre of Disney Classics made me so happy I know it's just watching clips of Disney classics but I have watched them all and I love them so much so to see so many of my favourites in one go was a little bit overwhelming and I nearly cried. The second chunk was funny learning how they made Mushu from Mulan. I did enjoy Cinemagique but I didn't recognise most of the films, however I nearly lost it when the guy entered the Step In Time sequence in Mary Poppins which is one of my all time favourite bits of a film. I can understand why it is closing because it very quite out dated. We also went on the Flying Carpets which was fun however the tilt was a bit naff but never mind. One thing I did really like was the tea time treat vouchers we got included in our stay it saved us so much money and was a nice snack to have of a doughnut and a drink.

We got our spots for the Star Wars light show about half an hour before it was due to start the only problem we had was when anyone came out on the stage, we struggled to see. The show was incredible, any Star Wars fan would love it. I liked how each main character got a montage and then they did a montage of each film as in 1-7, Rogue One wasn't featured much as it isn't out on DVD yet which a shame. After this we went to see if we could get a space at the Billy Bob's buffet in Disney Village which we luckily did because it was a selection on the meal plan. It was my favourite buffet of the trip, it was a Tex Mex buffet which meant I could just eat Nachos and Rice until my hearts content, however the layout was a bit misleading as they put mains before the Starters section but overall amazing food.

I know this post has been long but overall it was such a good but full on day in the park I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Until next time

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
