Afternoon Tea at Thomas' Burberry

About a week and a half ago me and my best friend Amy did a two-night trip to London, it’s something we do as a yearly thing going away together for a few nights. When deciding what, we wanted to do I was looking at the Thomas’ café in the Burberry store on Regent Street and saw on their menu that they did afternoon tea. I have never done afternoon tea and I think Amy had only done it once previously, so I pitched the idea to her and she agreed. Burberry is also one of my favourite brands I love their My Burberry perfumes, so to do their afternoon tea was a dream come true. We made the reservation about two weeks in advance without any problems and you tell them you want the tea when you arrive.

Thomas’ café it located on the Second Floor of the Burberry store, once we went down we were greeted by a waiter so confirmed the reservation and we were then taken up some very beautifully decorated stairs to our table which was very well presented next to a big window to the left and the bar to the right which you could sit around if you wanted to. It was a very simple but chic room, there was Burberry pieces in glass cubes on display which added enough decoration.

We were then presented with a beautiful drinks menu in a book style, once again this was just very simple and had the gold Thomas’ logo on it. Then we got presented with the menu which was on a single sheet of paper, where it explained to us that the tea consisted of sandwiches, cake and a choice from the Aga. However, neither me nor Amy drink tea so for an extra charge we swapped the tea for some homemade lemonade. The waitress also asked if we would like some water which we did. I cannot fault how quickly they bought everything out to us we weren’t waiting long at all and we could see our lemonades being made in front of us.

The food was put on a little two-tiered glass stand with the cakes on the top and the sandwiches on the bottom, then the choice from the Aga was bought out separately. From the Aga, we choose the crumpets which came with their own little pot of Thomas’ Strawberry Jam. The food was consisted of five cakes and 3 different sandwiches of which there was two slices and two crumpets.

Cake

Raspberry Tart

Berry Dome

Lemon Cake

Millionaire Shortbread

French Fancy

Sandwiches

Cucumber on White Bread

Salmon on Granary Bread

Egg on Brown Bread
From this selection, I had the Salmon sandwiches, the French fancy, the Raspberry Tart which I took the raspberries off and a buttered crumpet. I enjoyed what I had it was nice, apart from the icing on the French Fancy sticking to the plate but that’s a minor issue. Amy had everything else apart from the Egg sandwich which neither of us are fans of. Our favourite thing had to be the crumpets, they were amazing I’d go back and eat them again and again. The best part is that Amy got to keep the jar of Thomas’ strawberry jam for nothing which is a nice little touch to the service.
All in all, this was priced at £32 for the tea, £6 for the two homemade lemonades and £5 for the bottle of water we shared (plus a 12.5% discretionary service charge). We ended up paying £24 each roughly and we were in there for about 45 minutes to an hour because the service was just that quick. We were happy with the tea and we are glad we done it and can’t really fault it. I would recommend it doing it if you haven’t tried it and you are a big fan of the Burberry brand. I love the fact that this was my first afternoon tea experience. We will definitely be going back for more of the crumpets, we cannot get enough of them.

If you are interested in booking afternoon tea or just a meal at Thomas’ Burberry, then you can book here.

Until next time

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
