The Greatest Showman

Taken from The Greatest Showman Facebook
As you can tell by the title I am going to talk about The Greatest Showman because I have seen it twice and adored it and need to talk about it so thought I would put it all in a blog post. I know this film has taken the world by storm and I am glad because it is stunning.

I loved all the messages in this film and how many walls it broke down and how relevant they still are to this current time over 200 years later. The overall message being embrace all over yourself scars and all and that this is ok and that you should ignore the haters and just be you because majority of people will accept you and love you. Other little messages that the people you can meet can be the best friendships you’ll ever make and that friendship and family are so important never forget that they are there. Also, those are the people who will help you when things get difficult. One line from this film that sticks with me is when Charity tells Barnum that he doesn’t need everyone to love him, only a few important people. I think these are amazing messages that people should be reminded of.

The other thing in this film is the music, it is incredible I’m glad for once they have got people who can sing and not because they are just famous. Lettie is my favourite her voice is insane and I’m so glad This Is Me won a Golden Globe because it is such an empowering song. The Greatest Show is another brilliant song and an amazing opening to the film, it really sets the tone for the film. Come Alive is another good one Hugh Jackman does amazing in this, visually it’s brilliant. Generally, all the songs and the dance sequences with it where amazing I just wanted to sing and join in.
However, my FAVOURITE song and in fact whole section of the was Rewrite the Stars, first Zac Efron back singing is incredible I am so glad he is and then you have Zendaya who is a star, I remember watching her in Shake It Off on Disney Channel and she has just blossomed into this talented young lady. I adore the whole love story between their characters Phillip and Anne throughout the film and this song is their song because in society they cannot be together because of her skin colour basically. I love how stripped back this song was and how it was just them two in the ring and just the use of the ropes and hoops was amazing and they made it look effortless. I really don’t know how they done it especially Zendaya she looked like a professional on the ropes and hoop. I love how Phillip embraced Anne’s act and used the equipment with her. I could watch this section of the film repeatedly it is so beautiful and powerful. The end of the scene is powerful she just leaves and he is there alone. Their whole love story is beautiful from the instant he sees her and I’m glad it ends happily after so many circumstances which test it.
Basically, I really fell in love with this film which hasn’t happened since Beauty and the Beast last year which ironically director Bill Condon helped developed the screenplay for The Greatest Showman. I am listening to the soundtrack as we speak and this will be the situation for the foreseeable future. I urge you to see this film if you haven’t. If you have seen it let me know what you thought.
Until next time

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
