Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire

For Christmas my best friend Amy bought us tickets to have a go at the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, a hyper reality experience. Last Saturday (10th) was finally time for us to do it.

Hyper reality is basically virtual reality, you put the headset on and you are immersed into the world. This experience is located on the ground floor of the Westfield shopping centre in Shepheard's Bush in London. It's running from 16th December to the 7th March so not a lot of time left if you want to experience it. Midweek tickets are about £30 but because we did the weekend it was £32 and it was so worth it.

So you scan your tickets, sign the waver to say you are in good enough health to undertake the mission and then you wait to be called in after leaving your coats and bags in a little hut with an attendant. You go into a little dark room with a screen, on the screen appears Captain Cassian Andor from Rogue One (my favourite), he gives you your mission which is to help locate an item on the planet Mustafar and to do this you must infiltrate the military base there so you will go in disguised as Stormtroopers. Mustafar is the planet where Anakin and Obi Wan fight in the Revenge of the Sith and Darth Vadar is made basically. Once you have been briefed, it's time to get the kit on which involves a vest with sensors, then the headset which had built in headphones and the screen for the virtual reality. We were really lucky and ended up going in just the two of us which made for a better experience overall. Once kitted up we went to the room where it all begins and everything was calibrated then the missions started. I don't want to give anything away but we really got into it and almost forgot it was reality. At one point we could feel the heat from the planet (it's a planet made of lava). It was really well thought out and made you feel like part of a Star Wars movie, there was also a couple of puzzles you had to work out which added to the enjoyment and also a few familiar faces pop up along the way. Genuinely at some points we thought our stormtroopers were going to die.  All in all I think it took about 20 minutes which is shorter than I thought but it was so much fun. The bonus is that they could add it a bit more to it so it has so much potential to it as well. We had two photos taken as there was an offer of you can get the two photos and copies emailed to you for £15 which I didn't think was a bad offer at all, there was other merchandise there such as t-shirts, hoodies etc and the pricing wasn't too bad on them either.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to do it again as soon as we came out, I'd gladly take part in another experience like that. If you can get to have a go before it closes I'd urge you to, it is so much fun especially if you are a proper Star Wars fan. You can book tickets here

Until next time,

Stacey x

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
