Most Anticipated Books of 2018

I adore reading, I don’t blog about it much because I am not very good at book reviews and I don’t really know what to say, also I am terrible at not spoiling because I want to discuss everything that’s happened. This year I have struggled with reading with most of my books read being ones that I have already read. I have read 8 books this year and only 3 of those have been new reads. I only have a Goodreads goal of 20 books because that’s how much I’m struggling unfortunately to find things I want to read, I’m not sure what I want to read. However, there are some books coming out this year that I am very excited to read so I thought I’d list them here.

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas

Publication date: 1st May

Goodreads Synopsis:

Months after the explosive events in A Court of Wings and Ruin, Feyre, Rhys, and their companions are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can't keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated--scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.

I really love Sarah J Maas’s books, I started Throne of Glass so many years ago and stuck with that and now with the A Court series, I liked this series as it progressed and I’m love the systems in this world and I’m excited for this little novella, told by Feyre and Rhys and seeing the gang of characters we love and adore.

I’m so excited for this book, Giovanna Fletcher is one of my all time favourite authors and fact she has teamed up with Tom to write this YA series is going to be interesting, I cannot wait to read it. I love the idea of it all and the fact that it is going to be a trilogy as well should be good. Obviously will be very different from the fiction she normally writes but I cannot wait. I am also going to the Birmingham book signing on June 2nd which will be so exciting so look out for that post. I cannot wait for everything about this book.

When The Curtain Falls by Carrie Hope Fletcher

Publication date: 12th July

Goodreads Synopsis:

In 1952 two young lovers meet, in secret, at the beautiful Southern C ross theatre in the very heart of London's West End. Their relationship is made up of clandestine meetings and stolen moments because there is someone who will make them suffer if he discovers she is no longer 'his'. But life in the theatre doesn't always go according to plan and tragedy and heartache are waiting in the wings for all the players . . .
Almost seventy years later, a new production of When the Curtain Falls arrives at the theatre, bringing with it Oscar Bright and Olive Green and their budding romance. Very soon, though, strange things begin to happen and they learn about the ghost that's haunted the theatre since 1952, a ghost who can only be seen on one night of the year. Except the ghost is appearing more often and seems hell bent on sabotaging Oscar and Olive. The young couple realise they need to right that wrong from years gone by, but can they save themselves before history repeats itself and tragedy strikes once more?

I think this is my most anticipated book of the year, ever since Carrie told us the premise I’ve been hooked. A ghost and love story set in the theatre how glorious does that sound, it’s like music to my ears. I love Carrie’s writing and her unique ideas and this is just Another that’s going to be incredible. I cannot wait, I’ve heard it’s more grown up as well which I’m intrigued to see how. I’m sure it’s going to be amazing and the cover is just to die for like the rest of her books.

Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J Maas

Publication date: 7th August

Goodreads Synopsis:

When the Bat's away, the Cat will play. It's time to see how many lives this cat really has. . .
Two years after escaping Gotham City's slums, Selina Kyle returns as the mysterious and wealthy Holly Vanderhees. She quickly discovers that with Batman off on a vital mission, Batwing is left to hold back the tide of notorious criminals. Gotham City is ripe for the taking.
Meanwhile, Luke Fox wants to prove he has what it takes to help people in his role as Batwing. He targets a new thief on the prowl who seems cleverer than most. She has teamed up with Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, and together they are wreaking havoc. This Catwoman may be Batwing's undoing

This is the third book in the DC Icons series where a selection of the best YA authors tell us origin stories of our favourite DC heroes. I love DC so far we’ve had Leigh Bardugo bring us Wonder Woman and Marie Lu bring us Batman. So I’m excited for another one in the series about a character I’m not overly familiar with compared to the rest of the superheroes in the series. Excitedly in 2019 is the last book in the shape of Matt de la Pena bringing us Superman. It’s a great series if you like superheroes and DC in a different way.

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas

Publication date: 23rd October

Goodreads Synopsis:

Captured by the Queen of the Fae, Aelin is trapped inside an iron box in a secret location, with seemingly no hope for escape. As she endures months of torture, her friends scatter to different fates. Without Aelin to protect them, soldier Aedion and shapeshifter Lysandra need to defend their homeland at all costs. Also left to forge their own paths in order to change history are Chaol, the witch Manon, and the golden boy Dorian-while Aelin's mate, the fae male Rowan, searches the world over for his lost love.
As Aelin gathers the strength to save herself and fight the ultimate battle of her life, all of their destinies hang in the balance. Some ties will bond even tighter together, others will be severed forever, and mysteries will be revealed in this action-packed, heart wrenching series finale

Another Sarah J Maas book and possibly the most anticipated of all her books due this year. This book is the epic conclusion to the Throne of Glass series, considering how this series started I never thought we would be where we are now with it especially after Tower of Dawn which I thoroughly enjoyed. I just need to know how it all ends and who is ok and who isn’t ok, I think we are in for some heartbreak and shocks. I’m excited but nervous for this.

Until the Last Star Fades by Jacquelyn Middleton

Publication date: Autumn

I discovered Jacquelyn’s books last January, she’s a fairly new Indie author and I adore her London duology it’s one of my favourites ever. I have reviews for both of those books on this blog which I will link. Not much is known about this book currently it doesn’t have a cover or much of synopsis yet. All we know is it’s a brand new set of characters and it’s set in New York starting at New Year I think. I’m excited to explore New York through this book considering the amount of London detail in her other two books. I love Jacquelyn and I cannot wait for this book, I know I’ll love it. I highly recommend her London duology if you love London, theatre, romance and friendship in a very realistic way then give these books a try.

Amazon links to Jacquelyn's duology: London Belongs to Me London Can You Wait?

All of the synopsis and book covers were taken from Goodreads which I will link: https://www.goodreads.com/

I hope you enjoyed this post, until next time

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
