Until the Last Star Fades by Jacquelyn Middleton

About a month ago Jacquelyn ran a competition in her private Facebook group for her books, where if you said which character from her other books London Belongs to Me and London Can You Wait?, you wanted as a friend and why then you won an arc copy of her new book Until the Last Star Fades. So, I entered and won a copy for my Kindle, I was so excited to read this as I love her other two books and have reviewed them on here and also was one of my books I'm looking forward to in 2018.

Synposis:

COULD YOU BE THE ONE WHO CHANGES EVERYTHING?

In her senior year at NYU, Riley Hope appears to be on top of the world. With a loving mother who makes Lorelai Gilmore look like a parenting slacker, ride-or-die friends, and a long-time boyfriend destined for the National Hockey League, she puts on a smile for the world. But behind it, she’s drowning. Racked with fears for the future, she battles to stay afloat amid life in the shadows of a heartbreaking illness.

And then, Ben Fagan comes crashing into her life. Twenty-three-years-old, British, and alone in the Big Apple after a disastrous pilot season in LA, the struggling actor is looking for an escape: booze, mischief, sex—minimum commitment, maximum fun—anything to avoid returning across the pond.

As they form an unlikely bond, Riley keeps her reality from Ben so that he remains a happy refuge. But how long can she hold back the truth…and is Ben keeping his own secrets, too?

From the award-winning author of LONDON BELONGS TO ME and LONDON, CAN YOU WAIT?, comes a bittersweet story about love, loss, sacrifice, and the life-changing decisions we make.

This book is set in New York in the same universe as the London books, which is great because a few familiar faces pop up and are mentioned throughout which made me heart soar. We have Riley who is on her way back from spring break when she meets actor Ben at the airport. Taking him under her wing she helps him get to where he needs to be and this is how the relationship starts. I loved Riley as a character similarly to Alex in the London books, she's a realistic relatable character, who has her dealing with depression that are there for everyone to see and how she copes with them. Ben is a lovable rogue, his actions are questionable sometimes but he's just trying to get by and is the sweetest person ever, with the biggest heart. Pip, Riley's best friend is awesome she's straight talking when she needs to be and just there when she needs to be. Maggie, Riley's mum is the best Mum, she just wants what is best for her daughter through a torrid time for herself but she doesn't let it get to her and powers on. These characters are amazing and even more characters within the book that carry the story.

I loved the story, I didn't expect it to go the way it did and it had me in tears on more than one occasion. Even though the romance is the main plot there are so many other things at play here such as illness, depression, loss and many more. This is a great book showing them feelings and a lot more books should do that. I loved the slow burning romance it was intense but worth the wait and the twists and turns that it involved as well. It was lovely seeing a relationship build over time as well. I found it a very easy book to read, I love Jacquelyn's writing it is so easy to read and flow. Many times I was up until midnight reading. There are so many different messages from this book that people need to take away and I think it's a book that can give comfort as well. It has the detail that I loved from the London book, it's very current as well which is always better to read. I genuinely cannot recommend this book enough, I was pleasently surprised and cannot wait to see what Jacquelyn writes next.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
