Live Action Aladdin reaction

So Disney have decided to make another live action remake of a 90s classic, this time in the form of Aladdin. I love Aladdin it’s my favourite Disney film so for it to be made into live action it’s an exciting prospect, however when they announced Guy Ritchie as director that was questionable as yes he is an amazing director, he’s never directed a film in the same ilk as Aladdin. Next announcement we got was Will Smith as Genie, which is a very daunting prospect but fair play to him taking on this role, I’m intrigued to see how this plays out. For a while this was all the information we knew. Now we have a whole cast announced who are relatively unknown which I think is a good thing because it means they can make the characters their own and use this amazing opportunity as a good thing. We have Mena Massoud playing Aladdin and Naomi Scott playing Princess Jasmine, I cannot wait to see what twist they bring to the characters.

In October we had a teaser trailer drop out of nowhere and it really gives nothing away. We get our first look at the famous desert and then we are also greeted with the familiar bars of Arabian Nights which gives me chills. We see Agrabah from a distance and have Iago hanging around. The cave of wonders looks incredible both outside and inside which we get a glimpse of and also that unmistakable voice of the cave explaining about the Diamond in Rough, One’s who worth lies far within. Then we get the music of Friend Like Me which is such an iconic song then we get the inside of the cave which looks visually stunning then as a final scene we get our main character claiming the lamp. I love Disney teaser trailers they really know how to make them, for example the Beauty and the Beast one was incredible.

Now this week we’ve been completely treated by Entertainment Weekly with a first look at Aladdin. Firstly we have Aladdin, Jasmine and Genie on the front cover, I like how Aladdin and Jasmine look, I was a bit apprehensive about Genie but since we have been told that this is Genie’s human/disguise form which is interesting I cannot wait to see him blue.

Then we have been treated with more information from this article about the personality of the characters and their ambitions. We have a few new characters which will be interesting and to see what they add to the film. We get first looks at various points of the film but still not being spoilt too much with that we are shown. We have Aladdin talking to Genie which I assume is after they’ve escaped the cave and when they discuss his wishes.

We then get a glimpse of Jasmine talking to her handmaiden who is a new added character in this film.

Next we have Aladdin and Jasmine escaping from the guards of Agrabah.

We then get our first look at Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) who seems to have successfully gained the lamp from Aladdin.

We also see Aladdin shielding two children from danger in Agrabah, this has aires of when they nearly get attacked by the horse in the original.

We also see Jasmine in a regal outfit on the steps of the Sultan’s palace, the outfit is absolutely gorgeous I love the colours.

One of the best first looks has to be that of Abu, I actually didn’t know if he was going to be in this film but he is and he looks so cute, he reminds me of Jack out of Pirates of the Caribbean, complete with gilet and fez he looks as he should I think.

Then I think my favourite picture is that of Aladdin and Jasmine in Agrabah once they’ve run into each other and he takes her under his wing, it’s such a sweet photo of them and I think they’ll have great chemistry on screen, I’m in love with them.

One point I want to talk about is that by the sounds of the Entertainment Weekly article it sounds like they are keeping the original music which makes me so happy because it is one of the best soundtracks that there is, instead they are going to add some new music with Alan Menken teaming up with Pasek and Paul who did La La Land and The Greatest Showman, so I’m intrigued. Obviously they will be updated similarly to Beauty and the Beast which had amazing music, I still love it. Additionally Entertainment Weekly uploaded a behind the scenes video and it looks increible the locations and hearing the actors talking with excitement about this film.

What I’m excited to see in this film is obviously everything, but particularly I cannot wait to see CGI Genie. Another character we haven't had a glimpse of yet who plays a huge part is Carpet, I'm interested to see how they integrate that into the film. I want to see Aladdin as Prince Ali I want to see the costume and just because I need to see it. Also A Whole New World, I think that’s going to be absolutely magical and I will cry my eyes out at this fact. I’m actually ridiculously excited for this film, I like live action films I like having real people as these characters and having a human face to put to characters. I have my apprehension as well but I’m keeping an open mind about this. Also the release of this film means merchandise is on the horizon as well which is also exciting, that’s going to be all my money gone.

In a nutshell I’m excited and I cannot wait to see this film now, hurry up May.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
