2019 Theatre Plans

As well as being a huge Disney fan I am also a massive Theatre fan particularly Musical Theatre. So I thought I'd share what my Theatre Plans are for 2019 because I really enjoy sharing and talking about the shows I have seen and are going to see.

All About Eve (Noel Coward Theatre, London)

The first show I am seeing this year is the play All About Eve which is playing at the Noel Coward Theatre until May. I will be completely honest and say me and my friend Amy booked this because Lily James is in and she's our favourite actress and we try and support her in everything she does but since then I have got a better grasp of what this play is about. It's all about a big star actress called Margo Channing who is being played by Gillian Anderson who's biggest fan called Eve played by Lily James comes into her life and I think all hell breaks loose from there. It's presented as a rollercoaster of a play that has a lot of jealousy and ambition within it. It is an adaptation of the 1950 film. I'm excited I think this will be unlike anything I have ever seen and will push me out of my comfort zone. Also, I cannot wait to see how Gillian Anderson and Lily James react to each other on stage. We are seeing this on Saturday 16th February the evening performance.
All about Eve is running until the 11th of May and you can find tickets here: All About Eve
They are also doing a National Theatre Live Broadcast into cinemas on Thursday 11th April.

Les Miserables Tour (Birmingham Hippodrome)

The next show I am seeing is one of my all time favourite shows, Les Miserables. The show is currently on tour and we are going when the tour comes to the Birmingham Hippodrome. There is 7 of us going to this show as I am going with my boyfriend's family as they love musical theatre as well. I'm not going to say much about this show except that it's incredible and I am so excited to being seeing it again. Especially with Killian Donnally as Jean Valjean who was in the original London cast for Kinky Boots. I was very lucky to see it a few years ago with Carrie Hope Fletcher and Rob Houchen in. Also, I cannot wait to see the theming the Hippodrome do for it with their menus they are put so much time and attention into it. We are going Saturday 20th April, evening performance which is Easter Weekend which will be nice.

West End Does: The Magic of Animation 2 (Cadogan Hall, London)

For the May Bank Holiday weekend me and my boyfriend are going to watch West End Does: The Magic of Animation 2 at Cadogen Hall. We went last year to West End Does: The Magic of Animation and we loved it so much, I have a blog post written all about it. In a nutshell West End Does is a company set up by the lovely Rob Houchen and in collaboration with the Make a Wish foundation last year they put on a series of themed concerts that have the biggest stars of the West End perform. Last year they did The Magic of Animation, James Bond, Halloween and Christmas. Last year we saw Carrie Hope Fletcher, Bradley Jayden, Celinde Schoenmaker, Danielle Hope, Fra Fee, Eva Noblezada, as well as Rob himself and many more have performed over the variety of concerts. I enjoyed it so much having these stars sing some of my most favourite songs, mainly Disney and I cannot wait to do it all over again this year. So far Carrie Hope Fletcher, Rob Houchen, Bradley Jayden, Scott Paige, Dan Buckley and Laura Baldwin have been confirmed to perform and more to be announced. Also I think it's an inexpensive way to hear some great songs and see the best of the West End with top ticket prices being £36 which is amazing and Cadogan Hall is such a gorgeous venue as well.

West End Live (Trafalgar Square, London)

Next thing I currently have planned is to attend West End Live again this year. I actually went last year and forgot to blog about it. However, it was absolutely incredible and a day very well spent. Basically, this is a free event that happens every June in London's Trafalgar Square where some of the best shows on the West End and up and coming shows perform songs from that show. We had so much fun we saw Aladdin, Wicked, Thriller, Mamma Mia, Bat out of Hell, Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera and many more and it was amazing and not to mention we had the perfect sunny weather in which none of us were prepared for and ended up with sunburn. Difference this year is that we want to go both days as opposed to the one which we did last year. It's amazing considering it's all free I'd highly recommend to any muscial theatre fan. This year it is the weekend of the 22nd-23rd of June.

Les Miserables: The All Star Staged Concert (Gielgud Theatre, London)

This is the final show that I have planned currently and also the most recent that I have planned. Later this year the Queen's theatre that currently houses Les Mis is closing for a couple months whilst it undergoes renovation. In this time the show is moving next door to the Gielgud Theatre where for 16 weeks only there will be an all star staged concert. In this show we have Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean, Michael Ball as Javert, Carrie Hope Fletcher as Fantine, Matt Lucas as Mr Thenardier and Katy Secombe as Madam Thenardier and more to be announced. I'm going in November for my Mum's birthday on her actual birthday and I couldn't be more excited for this. It runs from August to November, I think there are a very select amount of tickets left which you can find here: Les Mis Concert

So that is everything that I have planned, set in stone theatre wise for the year. I'm hopefully going to try and get Mary Poppins tickets but we shall see, as for the rest of the free time I have we shall wait and see what happens. Also I would love to see Aladdin again before it closes in August.

Until next time

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
