Disney Videogames

I love gaming but I'm not what you'd call a hard core gamer at all but gaming has always been something that I have done. However, I'm very selective in the games which I play because I don't like the shooting, fighting, element of surprise games, I can't handle them they make me too nervous and panicky if I'm honest. My limit is Kingdom Hearts and with that I'm struggling to play it, it's so hard. What has inspired this blog post is in the recent year some classic games are being updated and re released such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon which I loved playing on the old Playstation 1. Also on the 29th January Kingdom Hearts 3 was released. I have a lot of Disney games for my Playstation One so I thought I'd talk about them and be a little nostalgic.
So my first Disney video game that I remember playing was on Sega Megadrive and it was a cartridge that had had a Mickey Mouse game and a Donald Duck game and you could choose which to play. It was Mickey's Castle of Illusion and Donald Duck's Quackshot. Out of the two I played Donald Duck a lot more, the plot was that Donald has found a map in one of Uncle Scrooge's books relating to one of the great Kings' Greatest Treasures and Donald decides to find it but unfortunately Pete overhears and this is where we begin. This game covers the world it starts in Duckberg then we go to Mexico where we find Goofy in a pyramind, this was one of my favourite levels I could do the pyramid in my sleep. Count Dracula's castle in Transylvania, then the Maharaja in India which I found so hard especially defeating the Tiger at the end and all the snakes throughout the level. We then find ourselves in Egypt solving a Sphynx riddle, again this level I used to find difficult as well. Next was a Viking Ghost ship and I really enjoyed this level and as with the other levels it gave you clues to find something somewhere else in order to progress further. The only other level I remember is South Pole with a load of penguins and this level used to drive me mad and took me ages to figure out. I don't remember ever completing this game, I just remember enjoying it, it was literally a wild goose chase. Mickey's Castle of Illusion I don't remember that well, I don't think I got very far in it, I remember it's about Minnie being kidnapped by a witch and Mickey going to save her via a lot of levels using illusion. The only levels I remember are the enchanted forest which I loved and the Toyland which I struggled with so much, unfortunately I don't remember getting any further than this because they used to be quite long levels.

I have so many games for Playstation 1 majority are just going through the stories of the films but in game form with levels. We have Emperor's New Groove which I really loved playing especially the catacombs levels they were really hard but really fun at the same time. We have Tarzan that was really good as well I think the Trashing the Camp level was my favourite, this is one of the games I did actually complete. The level where you ride Tantor I think it's the last but one was my least favourite as he was so hard to control. Another one of my favourites was The Little Mermaid game which had the first and second film on I played that so much but never got any better at it, I completed the level play so many times but I never found anything new within it. It was just a really cute game to play I loved it so much. Another favourite is Hercules, I think this is my favourite of the lot, I played it so much I loved the first couple of levels but the last one or two were really difficult and you had to collect coins and spell Hercules every level which is very similar to Tarzan with spelling the name every level which is a lot harder then you think. Another we had was Donald Duck's Quack Attack which was really fun going into these different worlds that has various levels with an end boss level, it was nothing special but we enjoyed it. One that I did play to death was Tigger's Hunny Hunt where Tigger had to go through various levels in the Hundred Acre Wood to gather Hunny pots for Pooh's party at the end. My Mum's favourite was Atlantis: The Lost Empire, I remember always getting stuck on this game but we played it so many times, it's another going through the story of the film and to change character you had to walk into a radio and change into the applicable character. There was a Mickey Mouse one we have which is so old there is no save option and you go through all the Mickey Mouse shorts starting with Steam Boat Willie, I can't remember getting passed Mickey and the Beanstalk so I'm not sure how far this goes up to but it was really difficult to play with no save option. We also had a Mulan one which wasn't the best you had various locations and completed little tasks or played games. I loved where you could play Mah Jong that kept me enterained for ages.
Since then the amount of Disney games we bought for our consoles diminished over time, I think it's because we got less interested in them and I don't think that many were being made either.I tried Disney Infinity with the little platform and figurines but I couldn't get into it and as soon as I got it Disney announced they were discontinuing it so I haven'y given it thought since, also I got stuck on the Inside Out levels. We also tried Epic Mickey and couldn't really get into that either. I had two Narnia games as well which weren't too bad I much preferred Prince Caspian to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I've had a variety of different consoles from Sega to all the Playstations to an Xbox 360 and now we are at Playstation 4 which I adore. I think my favourite type of game now are the Lego games which have a variety of Disney Games. We have the Lego Star Wars complete saga which is ok and we also have Lego The Force Awakens again which is ok not my favourite. We also have Lego Marvel Avengers which I'm not the biggest fan of because the levels seem really long and get boring after a while so I've not played it that much. The most recent Lego game we purchased was Lego Incredibles and I'm slowly working my through this game and I'm enjoying it so far.
Then we come onto Kingdom Hearts which I joined in the hype for last year and for a few months I was debating and watching the price until I finally took the plunge and bought the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 remix. A lot of luck, perserverance and frustration is how I have got through this game but I have enjoyed and I love visiting the different Disney worlds however I'm still on 1.5 but I am now stuck I cannot defeat Oogie Boogie I have tried so many times and even Darren had tried and we cannot crack it at all, so I've kind of put in on the back burner for a long time because I just cannot do it. Eventually I will go through them all and eventually buy Kingdom Hearts 3 but not just yet. However, this game does look epic all the different Disney worlds is amazing and the graphics look incredible. I hope everyone enjoys playing it.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
