Aladdin Soundtrack Reaction

It's out it's finally here, Live Action Aladdin is finally in cinemas after a wait that seems to be have been forever. Alongside the cinematic release we have also been graced with the release of the soundtrack, now I was worried about the music but it's a lot better than I anticipated. So I thought I'd share my reaction to the songs with you, note that this is just through listening to the music not watching it in context with the film. I have seen the film and loved it but that's a separate post.

 Arabian Nights- Will Smith

This was a pleasant surprise, I loved the stripped back beginning that intensifies throughout the song. Also, there's a little instrumental near the middle that's taken from the original Arabian Nights which I loved and nearly cried as well. There's some little lyric changes which work perfectly fine. I also like the added bit from the Cave of Wonders it adds an intensity to the song. Will Smith's singing is actually alright in this and overall, I loved the tone of song and sounds like a perfect opening.

One Jump Ahead- Mena Massoud

At first I didn't recognise the song because of the little twist on the instrumentals that they have done which are so good. Apart from that it's not too dissimilar from the original which is fine, it's not a song that needs really adapting.Once again the little lyric changes work really well as do the added instrumental parts. Also Mena's singing is really good I was impressed, very strong song.

One Jump Ahead (Reprise)- Mena Massoud

This is short but sweet, again Mena's singing is amazing and highlighted a lot better in this song given the shortness. I like words being spoken at the beginning as opposed to be sung to emphasis them more.

Speechless (Part 1)- Naomi Scott

This is a teaser for what is going to be a spectacle of a song that is Speechless and also this gives us our first listen of Naomi's voice which sounds amazing. Sounds like it's going to be a great song highlighting how Jasmine is feeling.

Friend Like Me- Will Smith

This has vibes of the original version in the sense of it's fun and sounds like it's going to be showstopping. You can definitely tell it's had a Will Smith twist added on it which is neither unexpected or a bad thing. Again like with every song so far the lyric changes work really well and the instrumentals are incredible. However, overall it's not my favourite but that's ok.

Prince Ali- Will Smith

This has to be one of my favourite Disney songs period not just favourite Aladdin song. I loved the build up in the opening before it bursts into the song. Like the others the lyric changes are very fun in this song and the twist on the instrumentals. The random bit near the end of the song where Genie is talking to someone it seems has absolutely no context until you see the film. What I adored was after this bit, they slowed the music down and then sped it back up sounds amazing. A very good take on the original and Will Smith did a very good job with this song.

A Whole New World- Mena Massoud & Naomi Scott

This is the big one, this was the one I was incredibly excited to listen to, another one of my favourites. I loved the piano at the beginning really setting the mood of the song and playing the familiar instrumentals we are very familiar with. Loved the tempo building during the song, worked so well. Mena and Naomi sound amazing together which makes for a beautiful song. I love how they didn't change anything with this song just a bit of a twist on the instrumentals, I loved it a perfect homage to the original.

One Jump Ahead (Reprise 2)- Mena Massoud

This was unexpected but a nice little added extra, which I thought was a good way of reflecting what Aladdin is thinking and it's not too long either. Exact same vibes as the other One Jump Ahead versions within this film.

Speechless (Part 2)- Naomi Scott

Another song everyone has been waiting for the new addition musically to the film, we do get a little taster earlier but this the full thing in all it's glory. I like this song, it's a very empowering song and I like the fact that Jasmine has a solo and it's a song of this capacity. It's probably one of the best Princess songs we've had in a while. Also, Naomi Scott's singing is showcased so well in this song, her voice is insane.

I didn't know what to expect with the music in this film even though I was a bit worried, but I am pleasantly surprised actually. One thing I like is that it seems that they found Mena Massoud's singing tone and they worked within that which makes it a lot better to listen to because he's not been pushed to where he can't reach. I think my favourite song on the soundtrack is Prince Ali I just love it it's such a fun song.

Also, after seeing the film there are three pieces of music I loved and that's the Harvest Dance, The Wedding and Friend Like Me (Finale) they are amazing. Give the soundtrack a listen if you haven't and go see the film if you have the chance, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I have been listening to it none stop on Spotify, which you can sign up for here

Until next time,

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
