Hello 2020: Goals and Plans

We have officially started and entered a new year and decade, one of the goals I have for this year is to write more on here but we shall see how we go. I love reading these 2020 goals and 2019 highlights posts I like being nosey and seeing what people have achieved and want to achieve, some of which can be quite inspiring. So I thought I would write some of my own goals for the year.

Blog

You may or may not of noticed over here we have had a name change. For 4 years I was Weird and Wonderful Things, which started after a suggestion from a university careers guide and I enjoyed it. However, I thought if I one day want to make this a brand then I need a more better personal, professional name and that's how By Stacey x was born, I sign everything with my first name anyway and it's a better way to know, yeah that's coming from me. My hopes for this blog are to make lifestyle, travel and Disney posts mainly as well as chats and reviews. I don't know how often I will post but I want it to be regular if that is once a fornight or once a month I will figure it out.

Screen time

I'm attached to my phone way too much and I need to stop because I'm beginning to find myself aimlessly scrolling and losing an hour of my time when I could be more productive or I could be sleeping. The thing is I only see Darren at weekends mainly so we text 24/7, have done since we met so that contributes a lot but even when we are together I still scroll. I've also caught myself starting to do it at work which is the last thing I need when I've got so much to do. So I need to limit what I do and put my phone away.

One of the ways I can cut my screen time is by reading a lot more. I know this goal will be on so many lists but I used to religiously read when I was younger and owned so many books it was silly. But over the past couple of years it's wavered because of various reason mainly my phone and struggling to find something to read, this year I want to read a bit more. I've started taking my Kindle to work so I can read on lunch instead sitting there for an hour bored scrolling through my phone using up my data. I'm currently reading Nothern Light by Phillip Pullman, I loved His Dark Materials Series on BBC 1, which inspired me to download the series and give it a re read.

Saving

I've never been great with budgeting and saving money but in the passed year I have gotten a little bit better but I'm still not where I want to be saving and money wise. Last year, I completed the 1p a day saving challenge which I am so proud of myself for. It's where on the 1st January you put away 1p then on the 2nd 2p and so on matching the number of days in the year so on the 31st December you put away £3.65 and by the end of the year I saved £668 which is amazing. Another money related thing I'm proud of for last year leading into this year, is that me and Darren as of the end of this month will have paid off our Florida holiday which we go on in April. I am proud of us because it's a lot of money and with careful budgeting and monthly payments we have nearly finished it. Also that £668 goes towards spending money as well so I don't have to save massive chunks the next couple of months. I'm starting the 1p a day challenge all over again this year and we shall see what happens.

Get a Car

One of my goals last year was to pass my driving test which I did second attempt and I wrote a post just after I passed about my driving lesson experience. Unfortunately, since passing my test I have driven once which was April last year and I hated it but to get my own little bit of independence as well as helping myself I need to get a car whether I like it or not. I've given myself a goal of June to get one by, I'm looking at both finance and buying outright so we shall see what happens. My dream car is a Fiat 500, I know the stigma that surrounds them but I've always loved them and wanted one so I'm putting it out there into the universe that's what I want.

Move Out

This was on my goals list last year, but in the end got put on the back burner because the opportunity of a holiday to Florida came up instead, which I don't regret because that holiday is going to be a dream come true. However, when we get back in May, me and Darren are going to start seriously looking at a place to rent as we can't afford to buy at this moment in time. So, this is more of a second half of the year goal but I think we can achieve it.

Self Care

There's a lot I could do in regards to self care, some which I have probably already highlighted. I want to continue to look after my skin, I have products I love but as usual my laziness gets in the way and I'll start off really well and then by the end of the week it's wavered off again. I don't think at this moment in time a constant morning routine is achievable because I like my sleep to much before work but maybe at weekends I can do it but I need a constant night time routine and hopefully my skin will reap the rewards. Establish a sleeping pattern, I'm rubbish at this, I go to sleep when I'm tired and wake up knackered all the time. On a typical work night I normally sleep between half 11 and 11:45 then my alarm goes off next morning at 8am and I snooze and get up at about 8:15, meaning everyday I am tired and moody. I need to establish a realistic sleeping time of probably 11pm then waking up at 8am the next morning.

Stay Positive

At the end of last year I discovered the idea of manifestation and attracting good things with good thoughts. So my aim this year is try to see the positive side of things and hopefully this will make day to day life, especially work a lot better and I'll see a benefit from those positive thoughts and feelings.

To end this post I thought I'd share some exciting plans that are already happening this year. At the end of January me, my Mum and sister are going to see the Jonas Brothers in Birmingham, my teenage self is screaming about this. I have my birthday in March where I'm planning on doing an Aladdin themed Escape Room which is so me. Probably the biggest and most exciting thing happening this year is my holiday to Walt Disney World in Florida in April/ May, I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about this. It really is a dream come true. In August I've booked for me and Darren to go and see Russell Howard at the Playhouse in Oxford, he's our favourite comedian and we are excited for this. Finally, in November me and my friend Amy are going to see Return of the Jedi in Concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall. This will be an experience, we did Beauty and the Beast at the Royal Albert Hall in December 2018 and loved it. Also, Return of the Jedi has to be my favourite of the originals. Apart from that I'm excited to see what else happens in 2020.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
