Goal Reflection and Continuation for the Year

Long time no speak, unfortunately a lot has been happening within my life personally and across the world but I thought I'd have a look back at the goals I set at the beginning of year and how I feel about them and how much closer I am to them.

Blog

Originally I wanted to post on here regularly and I haven't at all maybe once a month if that. I really struggled of what to talk to about especially with lockdown happening and I had so many plans that I was going to do posts on and what not but that has been blown out completely. I'm back to square one trying to think of ideas. I'm starting to think this might not be for me any more and might have to step back from it. I'd rather not have to get to that point though because I enjoy writing so I'm sure I can find a middle ground, but I think best not to set myself any solid targets at the moment and let it flow.

Screen Time

I'm not going to dwell on this but my screen time hasn't changed at all if I'm honest some days it's barely any at all and others I'm on my phone all day. I'm a scroller and it's harder to get out that habit than I thought because I scroll when I'm bored and it's such a waste of time. It's days when I'm not at work I struggle with. However, I am trying to keep myself more occupied with either reading or playing on my Nintendo Switch. I have joined the Animal Crossing trend albeit a bit late but I'm loving it as a mini escape from the world.

One thing I wanted to do this year was read more. Originally at the beginning of the year I set my Goodreads goal to 15 books but I have since increased this to 20 and again to 25, so far this year I have read 18 books so will probably have to increase this goal.
I've read a lot of varied books some which I wouldn't of necessarily read before. The books I have read this year are, His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, It's Your Universe: You Have The Power To Make It Happen by Ashley Eckstein, The Binding by Bridget Collins, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, Billy and Me duology by Giovanna Fletcher, How To Be Like Walt: Capturing the Disney Magic Every Day of Your Life by Pat Williams, The Eve Illusion by Tom & Giovanna Fletcher, House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas, If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane, Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self- Love is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness by Vex King, This Lovely City by Louise Hare, The Truants by Kate Weinberg, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Our Stop by Laura Williams and Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. I think my favourites so far are The Binding by Bridget Collins because it was such an unexpected story and how it was told was clever. Also, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens which I can describe as beautifully sad, I loved the main character and the story of her life is so emotional. I'm very glad to get back into my reading flow, social media has helped this a lot especially the discovery of Beth's book club which I came across on Instagram (@bethsbookclub_) and also taking my Kindle to work and reading on my lunch has proved quite effective.

Car

I realised I put too much pressure on myself to get a car by June. However, after a lot of saving and persistence at the end of June I bought my first car. I bought a KA, she's called Betty, she's 17 years old and she needs some TLC but she'll be perfect for me. Unfortunately, she needed a new steering rack but I didn't use my whole budget on buying her so the rest I put towards doing her up and paying for insurance and tax. I can't quite believe it but I saw her on Auto-trader on the Sunday night and then on the Monday night I bought her and she went to the mechanics to get fixed. She came with the name Betty, I decided to keep it because my boyfriend's car is called Barney and so it's Betty and Barney which reminded me of the couple who lived next door to the Flintstones. I can't wait to build my confidence up with her and have many adventures.

Move Out

This was something that was always a goal in the second half the year and I'm happy to say me and Darren are making good progress towards making this a reality. We are looking at September/ October to move into a house which will be amazing. It's also a case of waiting for things to go back to normal after COVID. I've been accumulating bits and pieces for a really long time and I'm so happy that we are almost there to renting a place where we can put all of this stuff. I think moving out with benefit both my mental and physical health as I'll be able to build my own routine and have my own space as well as having Darren who will motivate me as well.

Saving

Money by Laura Whateley
This is something I am very proud of this year, my personal saving has been amazing I've got a set amount every month that goes into various pots on Monzo and then I live off the rest and this is going well. COVID has allowed me to save a lot easier because I'm not spending anything as I'm just going between home and work. The penny a day saving is still thriving and adding up slowly. I just need to continue going forward how I am and I'll reach where I want to with it. It's amazing that everything is a when not an if any more, I'm so proud of myself.

Self Care and Positivity

Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King
This is something I've definitely been working more on this year. I'm trying to get use techniques and get into routines that work for me. I have established a simple skin care routine that has been working for me . I've started taking multi vitamins as well to see if that'll help me feel a bit better. I've been reading some self help books, I recently finished Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self- Love is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness by Vex King which I'm going to keep referencing to help me day to day. I am feeling a lot calmer within myself even with what has been going on in the world and how it's affected me but I know everything will be ok and work out in the end, I just have to keep going.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with where I am for the first half of the year and I have reached a few of my goals. I'm especially proud of buying my first car and getting us into a position where we are almost ready to move as well. Going forward for the rest of the year, I want to continue saving my money so I can build up some savings ready for when we move. I want to improve and continue my positive mindset and think about myself a bit more. Next step is finding a place to rent and move into said place. I need to build up my confidence driving my car, I have made a start so I will get there. Finally, I want to post more on here and on my social media because I love talking and documenting memories.

So there is my goal reflections and how I'm going to continue for the rest of the year, until next time.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
