Nintendo Switch Lite and Games Review

I’ve had my Nintendo Switch for a couple of months now and thought I would give an honest review of the console. I know this is a very niche kind of thing but I hope if you are considering getting one that this review will help you in some way. I’m also going to share some of the games I have bought and played, so hopefully this review will also give out some game recommendations.

I love games consoles I’ve always had them, starting with a Sega, then a PS1, a PS2, the original Nintendo DS lite I think they were called. I had an Xbox, the Wii, the newer version of the Nintendo 2DS and now the Nintendo Switch Lite. For a bit more game chat, check out my previous blog post on the Disney video games I’ve played over the years on these various consoles.

I’ve wanted a Nintendo Switch for ages and I was originally set on buying the big one that goes through the telly. In hindsight this was too expensive and one reason was so me and my boyfriend could play together but realistically I don’t know how much that would actually happen. After months and months of moaning and consideration I bit the bullet and ordered myself an Nintendo Switch Lite in the coral colour from Amazon as this was one of the only places that had it in stock because due to lockdown the Switch has been flying off shelves everywhere. It was also the last one in stock so seemed like a sign that I had to get it.

My first impressions were the size and how it wasn’t too big as well as how light it was to hold whilst playing it. The battery on it is decent but mainly depends on how much you play it, Nintendo say it should last 3-7 hours and takes 3 hours to charge when not being played whilst charging. I normally run the battery as far down as I can then charge it overnight. I bought a clear skin to put on the console so I had better grip and also the console can get a bit hot with continual use so it helps that as well. Additionally, I bought a proper case to put it in to travel and it fits in this case with the skin on. The case is Pokemon themed and is a hard covering with a zip all around and has room for 4 additional games as well as a stand and and cleaning cloth. I will say recently I haven't been playing it as much as I was as life has gotten a lot busier but it's something I can carry around to keep me occupied when out and about.

I have a few games to play, I started with Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu which was the main reason why I wanted a Switch because I love playing Pokemon. With some help from my boyfriend, we have nearly completed this game now, which is apparently the same as Pokemon Yellow for the Gameboy, I didn’t play this one so it was a new experience for me. I really enjoyed it and if you are looking for Pokemon nostalgia I’d highly recommend this game as it also uses the original 150 Pokemon. Obviously, I jumped on the Animal Crossing New Horizons hype and I must say I have started to get a bit bored of this game now. I’m at a bit of a loss of what to do with my island as I have so much space to fill. I do recommend it if you are looking for a game with pure escapism. Another game I’m currently playing and loving is Crash Bandicoot the N sane trilogy, I already have this for PS4 but I love it so much I wanted it for my Switch so I could take it travelling with me and never get bored. If you loved playing old school Crash then you need this game. The second one Cortex Strikes Back is my favourite I think. The last game, I’ve attempted to play on my Switch is Luigi’s Mansion and I honestly I couldn’t get into this game at all, I don’t know why I just struggled with it, unfortunately. I do have two games that I have yet to play however I have played both on PS4 and again love them so much I wanted editions for my Switch and they are Spyro Reignited Trilogy and the LEGO Harry Potter collection. There is only one game I'm highly anticipating for release and that is Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga but unfortunately it doesn't have a release date yet. Another game I'm hoping they bring out for the Switch is Crash Bandicoot: About Time which is being released in October but only on PS4 and Xbox One at the moment.

Overall I think a Switch is a good investment if you love gaming and you want something that is portable and easy to play. If you travel a lot then it’s perfect as it’s easy to carry around with you. I don’t find myself picking it up as much as when I first got it but that’s due to fact that I’m a lot busier at the moment than I was then. I’d suggest doing your research and seeing if it’s right for you and if you are going to get the use out of it.

Until next time,

Stacey x

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
