Nintendo Switch Lite, One Year On

May, marked one year since I bought my Nintendo Switch Lite, so, I thought I would give an updated review about what I think one year on.

I bought the Nintendo Switch Lite because it was a bit cheaper then the big one as well as being more portable for me to travel with. I don’t regret getting the smaller one because I’m still not fussed about putting it through the telly. Also only one set of my friends have the bigger Switch and I don’t see them often so I don’t buddy play with anyone, it’s just me that plays. Overall, I’m still very happy that I got the smaller one but I have thought about getting a bigger one at some point purely so I can play Pokemon on the through the telly but if I get one it'll be a second hand one. Honestly, I do dip in and out of playing it, I don’t gravitate towards playing it that much at the moment, I think this is also down to trying to find out what games I like playing.

I’m currently playing Pokemon Sword which I borrowed off my sister as I wanted something new to play and didn’t want to pay the money, if I didn't enjoy it. I love it, it is such a good game, it's more up to date but still has the good old Pokemon vibe to it. We've only got to defeat the Champion now and whatever comes after that. I am considering getting the expansion pack for it once we have completed the game.

I have a few games for my Switch, albeit they are just the Switch version of some of my favourite all time games.

My favourites are:

  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I think everybody was playing this during the first lockdown and after a lot of deliberation and hesitation, I gave in and gave it a go using my sister’s copy. Eventually, I got my own copy and built my island, Neverland. It gave my the escapism I didn’t realise I needed. However, I haven’t played this now in a long time but my fiancé actually started enjoying it so we visit the island every so often.
  • Let’s Go Pikachu, was the first game I had for my Switch and I loved it so much. We love Pokemon and this was the perfect nostalgia. It was harder than I expected but still enjoyed playing. It’s an updated version of Pokemon Yellow where you go around the various gyms and get badges to take on the Pokemon league, as well as going around collecting all the Pokemon you can. I haven’t quite completed it I just have to defeat and catch Mewtwo which is nearly impossible to do.
  • Spyro Reignited Triology, this is one of the games I bought because it is an old favourite. I really enjoyed this as I had never played the first Spyro game but I have the second and third. This game really helped me get through moving house as for the first week of living there we had no WiFi and I was off work so spent all my time playing this. It’s a great nostalgia game and I really enjoy it.

Other games I’ve got but not really played regularly are:

  • Lego Harry Potter Collection, this is one of my all time favourite games and probably the only one I’ve ever completed 100%. I bought this as I have it on all the consoles I’ve owned as it’s a comfort game.
  • Crash Bandicoot N sane trilogy, again this is a nostalgia game for me but I just haven’t really gravitated towards playing it. I love the fact these old games have been remastered and we can now play them on consoles again.
  • Rayman Legends, this is one that I’ve played before and just wanted a silly game I can play when I’m bored. This isn’t one I can binge play and I can get bored with it quite easily but it’s there if I want to play it and it’s fairly inexpensive.
One game I have played and didn’t enjoy was Luigi’s Mansion 3, I wasn’t gripped by it all and found it quite boring to play. Unfortunately, I thought it would be my cup of tea but it wasn’t. Would still recommend checking it out though.

These are the games I have on my current wishlist:

  • Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. I love Lego games and Star Wars so it’s the perfect game for me to play. However, the release date for this keeps getting pushed back but we’ll get it eventually and I can’t wait.
  • Pokemon Snap, these just seems like an escapism Pokemon game. Basically, you go around in a little buggy and take photos of Pokemon in their natural habitat. It’s inspired by the original Nintendo 64 game. This only just came out so I’m going to wait a little bit until it has gone down in price.
  • Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/ Shining Pearl, this was announced this year that the original Nintendo DS games are being remade for the Switch. I didn’t play either of these but nonetheless I’m looking forward to them coming out. I’ll have to research which version I want based on the Pokemon available in the games. This is available for pre order and coming out in November.
  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus, I don't know much about this game really apart from it's set in the Sinnoh region a long time ago. Arceus is one of the founding legendary Pokemon, kind of like a Pokemon God, he helped create the Pokemon race. This is available for pre order and coming out January 2022.

Overall, I’m very glad I bought the Switch Lite even though I don’t always gravitate towards it but it’s provided me with a lot of escapism through gaming when needed.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
