We got engaged in February and we’ve started to think about what kind of wedding we want. I thought it would be interesting to document various steps we get to in our wedding planning.
We’ve settled on getting married in summer 2023 and originally we’d booked a registry office for the ceremony and then hold the reception somewhere close such as a sports and social club. We’ve put the deposit down for this which was about £100 and is non refundable. Originally, we wanted a fairly small inexpensive wedding, where we just have a big party and that, then go on a really nice honeymoon after.
However, in the past few months this has all changed, my fiancé's parents went and had lunch at a small hotel that’s about half an hour away from us and picked up a wedding brochure as an idea, originally for the wedding reception. We looked through the brochure and just fell in love with it and started thinking about how our wedding could be there. I then booked us an appointment to have a show around and instantly we were like yes this is the place. However, we’ve now decided to have the whole day there so ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception, meaning we need to cancel the registry office which means we lose the deposit, but we’ll be getting our ideal wedding all in one place. I’m very aware that what started out as we want a small wedding has become a lot more expensive that originally expected. Honestly, we’ve not set a budget we told the venue what we wanted from the brochure and we got a quote back from them. From that we've thought about chopping and changing a few things, which we can do up until 3 months before the wedding. We have a provisional list of about 54 people overall which is still small in number of people. We've now met with the wedding coordinator and put our deposits down for the venue and the registrar.
By having the ceremony and reception at this venue it covers a lot of worries and things we’d have to sort out so I thought I would compile a list of what we’d need to sort ourselves:
- Photography/ Videography
- Flowers
- Cake
- Wedding outfits for us and wedding ensemble
- Book a registrar for the venue
- Choose our music
- Rings
- Book hair and make up
- Sort out decorations for the venue
- Hen & stag dos
Planning a wedding is very overwhelming and you think about things you didn’t even realised even mattered. Also, they can be very expensive. However, it is so important to do what's best for you and to surround yourself with the best people and enjoy the process.
