2021 Reflection and 2022 Plans

I think it’s safe to say that I will be very glad to see the back of 2021 it’s been a mixed year. The second half has been better than the first half. The main thing was being able to start doing normal things and being able to enjoy them even more. I thought I would pick out some of my highlights from the year.

Getting Engaged

In February I got engaged and it was amazing, it was at home, and it was very simple. Darren got me a card with some nice words and a rose and asked me in our living room. I had no idea even though looking back now it all makes sense. We have booked our wedding for summer 2023 and I am so excited for it. I have a wedding blog post that I will link, Wedding Planning Part 1

Holidays

We have been very lucky to have been on holiday within the UK twice this year and I am so thankful that we were able too. In June we went to Brean in Somerset for 5 days which was lovely, we stayed with my family in a lodge that had a hot tub. We also had lovely weather as well which made it better. In October for our 10-year anniversary we went down to Cornwall for 5 days. We stayed in an Airbnb that was within walking distance of Newquay town centre. It was a lovely Airbnb I would recommend and probably stay there again. I’d never been to Cornwall before and we did so much, it was a lovely week away.

Theatre

I love theatre so much and I normally see as many shows as I can. Firstly in July we saw Russell Howard at the Oxford Playhouse, he was really funny and the Playhouse is a lovely venue. Finally in August me and my best friend were able to get back to London and see a show. We saw The Prince of Egypt which has become one of my favourite shows I have ever seen. The film is one of best friends’ favourites, she loved the show that much she is taking her mum to see it after Christmas. Unfortunately, it is closing in January which is a shame because I’d recommend anyone to see it. For Halloween we are Derren Brown at The Alexandra Theatre, it was different to anything I’d ever seen but I don’t think I would go and see something like that again. In November we also saw Star Wars, Return of the Jedi with a live concert orchestra which was amazing. Neither of us had seen the film for a long time and we are huge Star Wars fans. I would recommend watching a film this way as it makes it so much more immersive and really highlights the amazing scores within the films. To round the year off I saw The Jersey Boys UK tour which was amazing, an incredibly talented cast and music. I will link my theatre reviews,

College

In September I officially went back to college. I work in community Pharmacy and have been building my way up through the qualifications and my next qualification will see me become a Level 3 Pharmacy Technician which is very exciting. I’m loving college, I get one day a week where I have Zoom lessons from home. It’s the first time where I know what I’m talking about and I’m enjoying learning in depth about everything. My aim is to be an Accuracy Checking Technician in a few years.

Warner Brothers Studio Tour

For my sister’s 21st birthday we bought her a ticket for the Harry Potter Studio tour as she’d never been. Finally in October we got to take her, and it was one of best experiences I had had there. It was about 6pm on a Sunday and it was so quiet, it was much more enjoyable and give her the ability to really look at everything. The studios were dressed for Halloween and the attention to detail was amazing. They also did little passports to fill in as you went round there was a stamp and then a dark mark to find which was fun to do. I love the Studios tour and would go back again and again. Absolute much do if you’re a Harry Potter fan.

2022 Plans

All being well, 2022 is going to be an amazing year, we have so much to look forward too. At the beginning of the year, I have a lot of theatre shows booked in and I cannot wait. I have 2:22 A Ghost Story, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella, Hamilton, Doctor Who- Time Fracture and Beauty and the Beast. I have The Wanted concert in March which is incredible they were my first concert when I was 18 and cannot believe I am seeing them 10 years later.

In June, the biggest event of the year is happening, our best friends are getting married. I am bridesmaid and Darren is best man and I cannot wait for this. I am so excited and look forward to sharing their big day with them and crying all the happy tears.

In September we are finally going to Florida for 3 weeks and I am so excited to be going nearly 2 and a half years after we were supposed to originally.

Also we have our own wedding to save and plan for in 2023, so we are in for a very busy year and I cannot wait. I hope everyone has the best year they possibly can.

Until next time,

Stacey x

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
