2023

 Hello 2023

I know it is February and nearly March and it's probably a bit late to be talking about goals for the year but I've been inspired by seeing other people's goals, I thought I would share mine so I can hold myself accountable.

2022 was a mixed year for me I had some amazing highs but on the flip side of that some very low lows. I hit rock bottom about March last year and have been building myself back up. Additionally, we lost some family members and were both involved in a car fire. On the flip side we had some amazing highs I saw various theatre shows and concerts, we watched our best friends get married which is a feeling unlike any other and we finally we went on the holiday of a lifetime to Florida for three weeks in September- October.

2023 is a big year as we are getting married in August so all our energy and money are going into this. I have a few goals and things I would like to happen this year around the wedding, I have really struggled with goals this year because of the wedding I just don't know what can be achieved around it. It is also the last year of my 20s, I turn 29 in March so I'm going to enjoy it the best I can.

Here are a few of my goals and hopefuls for 2023:

  • Build some routine and habits- I'm making routine and habits my words of the year which is something I have never done before but have heard of. I have no routine that I stick to day to day and I can never get habits to stick either. I want to start with my evening/bedtime routine because I am not a morning person, so if I perfect my evening routine then I set myself up well for the next day. I am trying to make my mornings as stress free and simple as possible but I understand these things take time and I will report back on how I am doing.
  • Have the best wedding possible- I just want to have the best day possible with everyone with love and have it be the best representation of us and something that we will look back on with the fondest memories.
  • Book our honeymoon- We have gone back and forth on where we wanted to go for our honeymoon and originally we were set on going to Dubai but after going to Florida we have decided that we want to go back. Due to money and time we are going to go December 2024 because we want to go for Christmas, so I hope end of the year we can book that in and start the planning process again.
  • Go back to the gym- Last year I joined the gym for the first time ever because Darren wanted to go and wanted someone to go with. We were going 4 times a week and I felt really good, my body felt stronger and healthier which was my goal. However since coming back from Florida we haven't been and I can feel it.
  • Read 25 books- I set this as my reading target for last year and I didn't reach it I was 2 books short so I thought I would try again and see how close I get to it.
  • Journal- I bought the Greatest Self Help Book by Vex King and Kaushal, this is journal and I love it. It allows me to put my emotions and thoughts down in a simple way and it asks me different questions everyday that make me think. Additionally, every 3 days they put a mindful activity in to do such as a worry jar or mindful colouring. I would recommend if you want to get into journaling.
  • Find my style- I really want to find my sense of style this year, my go to is jumper and jeans constantly, which is fine but I want to improve that and use what I already have. I own a variety of dresses, tops, jeans, shorts and I want to learn how to style them and not buy much new or second hand. I do love second hand shopping especially Vinted I have found many nice things on there.
  • Finish my level 3 and start my ACT qualification- This year I finish my apprenticeship for level 3 Pharmacy Technician and hopefully by the end of the year I can start my qualification for becoming an Accuracy Checking Technician.
There's my goals and hopefuls for 2023, I will update as much as I can, here is to making a good year.

Review- Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Tour

This weekend I went and watched the tour cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. I’ve not seen this show before but it has been on my list for a long time. I’d only heard one or two songs before so I was going in with no ideas of what it was like and I found it very enjoyable. Background This is based on the true story of 16 year old Jamie New who dreams of being a drag queen as well as wearing a dress to his prom. Throughout the show we see Jamie go through a journey of self discovery which has so many highs and lows. Along the way we meet people who are and aren’t supportive of his dream and how much prejudice he has to contend with. The show first opened on the West End in 2017 and is currently on its second UK tour. Cast The cast of this show were fabulous, unfortunately didn't get to see Ivano Turco play Jamie, Finton Flynn was incredible in those red heels. He portrayed the emotion of playing Jamie perfectly as well showing the young silly ...

Carrie Hope Fletcher Book Signing

Hey Guys On Monday 12th September I attended Carrie Hope Fletcher's book signing for her fiction book On The Other Side at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This is the second time I have met Carrie and once again she was an absolute pleasure to listen too. I attended this event on my own, and I must stay that I think the Glee Club and the Waterstones team planned and hosted the event so well considering there was 350 people that turned up to this event and each one of those people had bought a ticket and a book. We were seated quite early as doors opened at 6 and I was in a seat by 6:30 with the event starting at 7, however there were people who turned up 10 minutes before the event and had to stand up because of all the seats that were taken which gives you an idea of how many people attended this event. Before the signing of the actual books, there was a 40 minute question and answer session with a representative from Waterstones asking Carrie questions about her book, being...

Review: Beauty and the Beast Musical

In March, me and two of my friends went to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films and I was excited to see what this interpretation had in stall. The fairy-tale was first adapted into the much-loved Disney animated film in 1991 and became a Broadway production in 1993. The show opens with the familiar voice of Angela Lansbury and the enchanting music that we all recognise and with the help of the beautiful rose projection we are transported into the magic. Director Matt West leaves the story exactly how it is, only adding extra bits of comedy here and there which the audience engage with easily. The cast all suit their characters and portray them to perfection. Grace Swaby- Moore, understudy to Courtney Stapleton, was the embodiment of Belle, she captured the innocence of the character and belted the songs to perfection. Shaq Taylor portrayed the Beast will emotion and ferocity when needed. His voice ...
